P.S. 56 will be honoring Phil Carollo with #LiveLikePhil Day- On this day, staff and students will be invited to wear their shirts from last year. P.S. 56 wanted to open this up to the district as well. Schools can wear the shirts in memory of Phil on that day. Pictures can be posted with the hashtag #LiveLikePhil. If you would like to purchase a shirt, please use the attached link.

We regret to inform you that due to overwhelming demand, Urban Advantage has suspended their voucher program. Vouchers will no longer be accepted at UA venues through June 30, 2023. Their Voucher Program will resume during the 2023-2024 school year. If you still have a Urban Advantage it will no longer be accepted as of March 22, 2023.

Congratulations to Barbie Lin of class 819 on winning the National Video and Poster Contest. This year’s theme was sustainability and the role of recycled materials as a renewable resource to help mitigate climate change and make for a more resilient planet. With over 160 submissions and ten judges reviewing submissions we are beyond proud that Barbies poster has won and has been invited to Nashville Tennessee to attend the national conference!

As we are in the second half of the school year.  At this time I offer some suggestions and reminders to you in our ongoing effort to support our students and school.

his letter is to notify you that our school, Myra S. Barnes Intermediate School 24, has been designated for Local Support and Improvement (LSI) by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) for the 2022-23 school year based on the performance of our students on New York State assessments in school year 2021-22. The previous designation “Good Standing” has been changed to “Local Support and Improvement (LSI),” to recognize that all schools, even higher performing schools, are in a continuous improvement mode and can benefit from local support from their districts to meet students’ differentiated needs.

All students ages 14–24 are invited to apply to participate in the 2023 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), which is now accepting applications for summer 2023 via the general lottery through March 31. Please see the program flyer attached. For questions, email [email protected].
