Dear Parents/ Guardians,

We are pleased to inform you that I.S. 24 is fortunate to be able to offer your child an opportunity to participate in our Self Sustaining After School Program (SSASP). In an effort to enrich your child’s middle school experience we are offering a variety of extra-curricular activities (see below). 

Each program will be held on Tuesday through Friday, from 2:21-3:51 or Tuesday through Thursday nights from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM.  The cost of each program is $175.00 for a seven (7) week session. Please note some programs may have an additional supply fee.

 

Only Credit Card payments will be accepted. Please complete the registration form online at www.barnes24.orgApplication and payment are due by September 30, 2026.  Online payments will show up on your credit card statement as OSP1489MyraSBarnesSINY.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. O'Connor or Mrs. Doyle.

Also note that if a particular activity has low registration, we will be unable to sustain the activity. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Doyle in Room 315 or Mrs. O'Connor in the gymnasium with any questions. 

 

General policies: Registration fees are refundable minus the credit card fee only if a class is canceled.  Classes will be canceled in the event of insufficient enrollment.  Your child will be accepted to the program upon receipt of both the registration and fees.  Placement into a class goes according to availability. There will be no bus transportation available. Failure to pick up your child at dismissal of the program may lead to the removal from the program. After our program, students enrolled in the UAU program may attend the UAU program until 5 PM.

Yoga: Mrs. Redondo  $175.00

Students will learn to develop flexibility, strength, and balance through a variety of yoga poses while exploring techniques for stress relief and relaxation. This course focuses on physical postures, breathing techniques, and mindfulness. 

 

Chess Club: Ms. Ginos  $175.00

Students will learn how the pieces move, to play a chess game from start to finish, and to develop strategies. Students will have the opportunity to play a tournament competition as part of the chess club.

 

Painting: Ms. Virone  $195.00 Maximum 12 Students; Activity has an included $20 material fee 

Grab a brush and get ready to create! Each week in painting you will start a brand new masterpiece on a fresh canvas to take home. We will explore different acrylic techniques, color blending and cool textures every single session. 

 

Beginner Guitar: Mr. Barry $175.00

Unleash your inner rockstar! All guitar players are welcome. No experience, no problem! This experience is going to get you on your path to learning guitar.

 

Speed & Agility: Mr. Rogers $175.00

This Speed & Agility class is designed to help youth athletes improve acceleration, quickness, change of direction, balance, coordination, and overall athletic movement. Through age-appropriate drills and proper technique, athletes will develop greater speed, body control, confidence, and movement efficiency that can translate directly to improved performance in virtually any sport.

 

Junior Rescuers: Mr. LaPorta $175.00

Calling all future first responders: gain the confidence and hands-on skills to spot danger, stay calm, and call for help during real-world emergencies. Learn to master hands-only CPR, use an AED, save choking victims of all ages, and immediately treat burns, cuts, nosebleeds, sprains, and fractures.

Volleyball: Ms. Cios and Ms. Slizewski $175.00

 

This course offers students a foundational understanding of volleyball rules, techniques, strategies, and teamwork. Students will learn the core skills of the game, including serving, passing, setting, hitting, blocking, and defensive positioning, while also exploring offensive and defensive team strategies.

STEM Warriors: Mrs. D.Amoroso $175.00 Maximum 18 Students

At STEM Warriors, we help students uncover the excitement and adventure in the world of science, technology, engineering and math.Students will learn many new STEM skills and develop a love of all things science!

Cardboard Box Club: Mr. LaPorta $175.00  Maximum 16 Students

Think outside the box! In this hands-on program, students learn to safely work with tools as they invent, build, and create amazing projects using cardboard and their imagination.

 

Baking: Ms. Ginos $195.00 Maximum 20 Students; Activity has an included $20 material fee 

Who doesn't love a sweet treat after a long day? "Treat" yourself! You'll learn the basics of baking, decorating, and preparing desserts.

 

Holiday Door and Decor:Mrs. Margolis $195.00 Maximum of 18 students; Activity has an included $20 material fee 

We will be creating wreaths for the Season from start to finish! Each student will take home their creative crafts to proudly display and celebrate the seasons.

 

Advanced Dungeons and Dragons: Mr. Scaffidi $175.00

In this Advanced session, students will take part in an exciting campaign. They will create unique characters, explore different maps, and defeat powerful monsters while building their communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

 

Diamond Art: Ms. Ferro  $195.00  12 students maximum; Activity has an included $20 material fee

Jump into a sparkle-filled creative adventure where art meets chill vibes! In Diamond Painting you’ll turn simple canvases into glittering masterpieces using tiny, colorful gems — no previous art skills required.

Intramural Basketball: Mrs. D. Amoroso/ Mr. S. King $175.00: This course provides students with comprehensive training in basketball fundamentals, teamwork, and strategic gameplay. Participants will refine their skills in dribbling, shooting, passing, and defense while learning offensive and defensive strategies to enhance game performance.

Coding: Mrs. Portalatin $175.00 

An introduction to coding for beginners.  You will learn how to add code, costumes, and sounds to characters as you make animations, a game, and a book.

 

Pep Band: Mrs. Yuzuk and Mr. Barry  $175.00

Pep Band is all about school spirit! I.S.24 Pep Band will perform after school during the student basketball games and pep rallies. Pep band requires the least amount of experience and is all about pumping up the crowd and having fun!
